Sherlock's Home: 221B Baker Street

Holmes and Watson, at the time of this story, were lodging together at 221B Baker Street.  This is how they came to be friends- they arranged to split the cost of the room with one another.  The story of how they met, thanks to young Stamford, is recounted in the first published tale A Study in Scarlet.   They were introduced at the chemical laboratory of a London hospital, where there is now a plaque on the wall that states:
At this place New Years Day, 1881
Were Spoken These Deathless Words
"YOU HAVE BEEN IN AFGHANISTAN, I PERCIEVE."

   221B Baker Street was the place Holmes was looking for someone to split the rent with, at he same time that Watson was looking for a cheaper place to stay, consisted of a 'couple of cofortable bedrooms and a large airy sitting-room, cheerfully furnished and illuminated by two broad windows.'  A reconstruction of this sitting room is pictured below.
