A very good book, all in all.  The resolution and epilougue I felt did not quite live up to the rest.

All references to the politics, religion, economics, culture, art, and view of aristocracy the Netherlands agree with the assessments of my passionate professor of seventeenth century Dutch history.

Possible inconsistency: On page 215, Marie de Medici is the widow of Henry IV; on page 241 “her husband, Henry VI, had” ... — he is talked about in the past tense.  I don’t even know if she’s a historical figure.  Oh, maybe she’s the ‘widow next door’ in the “I’m Henry the Eighth I Am” song!
