One of the reasons I did the NYC road trip-- a tossup until the last second, especially when the bus wouldn't work out because I missed the last feasible train into Boston -- the damn sciatica was too painful to concentrate on work. Pain is such an individual thing it is very hard to tell, but I am pretty sure i have a high pain tolerance and this thing is a holy terror. It's ridiculous because it's not 'real' pain, or rather, there is not an actual problem, at least not of the severity the pain would indicate, that the body is calling attention to– it's a short-circuiting wire, a car alarm set off by a cable pinched by the door joint, a minor wiring issue causing pain as if the most severe things possible were going wrong.

Nothing I read happened to mention it as a cure, but the natural solution for me, and it is out there when I searched for it directly, is strength training for the lower back, which turns out to mean core strengthening period.
I helped Grandpa get up off the ground, just lifting him from behind, so I fortunately remain quite stronger than I look (he's lost weight, also) and strong enough...
