Gwen Bell – 15 Minutes to Live
"We are afraid of truth, afraid of fortune, afraid of death, and afraid of each other. Our age yields no great and perfect persons." – Ralph Waldo EmersonYou just discovered you have fifteen minutes to live.
1. Set a timer for fifteen minutes.
2. Write the story that has to be written.
Dear person, every person, any person,
You have power. Everything that is human achievement and control comes from people putting in work. Over and over again a few of many have been able to land an outsize share of benefits and hold sway over decisions. System upon system, institution upon institution, has been built up supported by and to support this inequality. Outsize legal structures privileging profit over passion, militaries to extract resources and acquiescence by brute force, police and prisons, advertising to lull and to lie, debt-based financing, ponzi-like stock schemes, mediators and managers of all kinds, and thousands of institutional structures have been built and evolved to make unfairness, inequality, and restricted freedom work at all. All these structures are, as with all human constructs, in fact constructed by people.
You can stop supporting and building them.
The power that humanity has is from organization.
Not only can we re-organize to redistribute power, we can actually increase our aggregate power by organizing ourselves in a more fair and free manner— true justice and liberty demand equality.
Make decisions on the lowest level possible— individual, working group, community, region.
Communicate in mass without privileging an elite by sharing the work of moderating.
All technology and resources are our common heritage, and can be claimed. There need be no backsliding or loss of what humanity has accomplished. Just be prepared to work from the ground up.
Love to all.
