In loving, living memory, John Melançon 1928 – 2007
I was reminded by Zeldman's 20 signs you don't want a web design project about what Dad said about working for owners. The owner, especially the small to medium-scale owner, is most likely to care and know about what their business is doing.
We may not have had the most profitable clients, but compared to that list, we've had fantastic clients. Partly because we do tend to deal with people actually in charge, not a so-called client who answers to a boss. From many of the 20 anecdotes, that seems to be the situation to avoid whenever possible.
"Can we talk to the person actually in charge please?"
Dad always said it was better to work for owners.
